About The Doctor
Jeffrey R. Varga, aka "The Rock Doctor", is a world-class expert on Petrographic studies and evaluations of hardened concrete, construction products, and their associated raw materials. He has 20 years of professional experience and has managed the Petrographic laboratories of major worldwide construction materials manufacturers. In these capacities, he directed failure analyses of concrete, raw material analyses and approvals, Analytical Chemistry department functions, and competitive product analyses while providing technical support to customers, sales force activities, and internal customers including production, quality control, product development, purchasing, marketing, and legal departments.
Proficiencies include optical microscopy and mineralogy, reflected light microscopy, stereomicroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopic Systems (SEM-EDS/EDAX), and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD).
Jeff also routinely interprets physical test results and instrumentation data including: Fourier Transform Infrared Analysis (FTIR), Liquid Ion Chromatography (LC), Ultraviolet Visible Spectroscopy (UV-Vis Spectroscopy), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), Gas Chromatography (GC), Inductively Coupled Plasma Emission Spectroscopy (ICP), and Atomic Absorption (AA).
